Update • July 8th
Hey B4 family and friends,
I want to share something that’s on my heart today. I was having a conversation with someone and they were asking what the transition into my role at B4 was like. We were acknowledging the awkwardness of the situation. I was installed in early November and 14 weeks later COVID-19 hit. Since then, I've spent more time preaching to a congregation that I'm supposed to be falling in love with over video than I’ve been with them in person.
I was lamenting that. I was also sharing about certain insecurities that have surfaced for me through this season. There have been moments when I've wanted to have influence and I don’t. Or, I’ve wanted to have extra strength to draw on and I don't seem to have that either. I wanted to wrap my mind around what's going on in my heart so this morning I spent some time in the book of Zechariah, chapter 4, verse 6. It was a great reminder to me. The Lord says to Zechariah:
“...‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.”
I was reminded again that the Church of Jesus goes forward because his people are on their knees pursuing the spirit of God. So, this morning I was on my knees, as I've been the past several weeks, praying for you, for our church, and for our nation. This morning as I was praying, I realized that I needed to invite you into that moment and ask that you would pray with me. Would you be willing to get on your knees at some point today or tomorrow and take a moment before the Lord? A lot of us want some sort of power, influence, or strength to change what's happening around us. I really believe that what we need is the spirit of God to be moving through us and in us right now.
I'm also inviting you to stop and pray for our church to be united by his Spirit. There's a deep sense of unity right now at B4 and I'm really encouraged the messages I receive. However, I want to continue to contend for God’s Spirit to unite us as never before. Please also pray that our church would be a strong force in our city, and witnesses of God's grace in our communities, our places of business, and on social media. I pray that we would continue to be a symbol of God's grace and his love.
Finally, there is something else I was praying for today. I was asking that our land would be healed. There is so much brokenness and sickness. Please join me in praying for healing and that we would soon be able to gather together again in person.
You're going to see some information that’s come out this next week about next Wednesday the 15th. We're going to host a worship and prayer night in our parking lot. It will be a powerful time to gather, see each other, and worship together. It's really needed in this season. We’re going to do so responsibly with proper physical distancing and we would love for you to join us. Please remember to wear masks. We’re doing all the things necessary to make sure that we comply with our local public health regulations while gathering together. Bring your own lawn chair, and meet us in our main parking lot. The building facilities are not going to be open, so we’re sorry that we can’t allow access to restrooms. Please plan accordingly.
Information is available to you on social media and on our website but I wanted to remind you about what’s going on. It’ll be a great time together! I love you guys and I really can't wait till I get to see you—hopefully, next Wednesday we’ll get to see each other in person. Until then, have an amazing rest of your week!.
