DAY 11 • DECEMBER 23

B4church   -

Psalm 89:1-4, 19-26

I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself. You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant, ‘I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations.’”

Once you spoke in a vision, to your faithful people you said: “I have bestowed strength on a warrior; I have raised up a young man from among the people. I have found David my servant; with my sacred oil I have anointed him. My hand will sustain him; surely my arm will strengthen him. The enemy will not get the better of him; the wicked will not oppress him. I will crush his foes before him and strike down his adversaries. My faithful love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted. I will set his hand over the sea, his right hand over the rivers. He will call out to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, the Rock my Savior.’

ENCOURAGEMENT:

With a declaration of praise, Psalm 89 begins. The psalm creates a picture of God’s love and faithfulness through a covenant established with David. David, a young shepherd boy, was raised up from among the people of Israel to be the one that God would establish as king of Israel and the model by which all future kings would be judged. God promised that his covenant with David and his family would be everlasting, never failing from one generation to the next. God also promises David that his faithful love will be with him forever, sustaining him and giving him strength. Ultimately, the covenant was perfectly fulfilled through the lineage of David in the birth of Jesus, God’s son. One day all the promises in this covenant will be fulfilled when Jesus rules as the most exalted king over all the earth. As we read in this Psalm, we can rejoice in God’s promise for his faithful love & mercy to be with us in all things. Like the Psalmist, we can proclaim, “I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever.” (Psalm 89:1)

PRAYER:

Pause for a few moments and speak out in praise (or write down) the many ways God has shown His faithfulness to you and through the generations of your family.

Spend some time listening to a worship song that speaks of God’s great love. After listening, rest in God’s love for you.

Where in your life are you asking God to sustain you and give you strength? Prayerfully share these requests with God and let His Holy Spirit minister to your heart needs.

ACTION:

During this Christmas season, while gathering with family members or close friends, open up your conversation together to recall the many ways God has shown His love and faithfulness to you this year. Together, thank Him for the miracle of Jesus’ birth. Remember and celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.
