2 Peter 3:8-15a

“But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him.

King Jesus will return! He is faithful to fulfill his promises. As we look at the brokenness in the world around us, we long for Him to come back and make everything right, right now! However, he’s patient to do so. This isn’t  because he is unfaithful, but because He wants all people to know Him. He delays the eventual renewal of all things because of His great love for broken humanity. He desires all people to be restored to a right relationship with Him. We also get the opportunity to partner with Him in that effort throughout the earth. As we look forward to Jesus coming back, we’re instructed to live lives that are full of God’s character. Let’s continue to run with perseverance the race marked out for us with an unshakeable love for God and people. As we are transformed into the likeness of God’s Son, we are more effective in the way we represent Him in a world that is filled with hopelessness and brokenness.

Thank Jesus that He is patient, not only with you, but with all humanity. Let’s praise Him for His amazing, grace-filled love.

Take some time to be still before God and just listen for His voice. Ask Him to reveal the people in your life He wants you to serve and love.

Ask God to increase your love for those who don’t know Him and to give you creative ways to get involved in their lives.

Write down the names of at least one person God is speaking to you about and start praying for them regularly. Ask the Holy Spirit for strategies on how to get more involved in their lives so you can demonstrate the love of Jesus.
