Water Baptism
Our Beliefs
We believe that water baptism in the name of the Father, the Son, and The Holy Spirit according to the command of our Lord is a blessed, outward sign of an inward work. It’s not just a symbol of change, but is a ritual with supernatural implications. It is a beautiful and solemn tradition we participate in, as did generations before us. Baptism is a symbol of moving from death into life, reminding us that even as Jesus died upon the Cross of Calvary so we count ourselves dead to sin, the old nature nailed to the tree with Him; and that even as He was taken down from the tree and buried, so we are buried with Him by baptism into death; and raised with Christ from the dead by the glory of the Father. Now, we walk in newness of life.
Our Practice
We practice full-submersion water baptism for people ages 8 and older who believe God is the one true God, Jesus is the Son of God who died for the sin of the world, rose again defeating sin and death, and have committed to following Jesus with Him as the Lord of their life. The process begins by filling out the baptism inquiry form so that the age-appropriate pastor can reach out to you. You will meet with that pastor to talk about your faith journey and discern whether this is the best next step for you. All persons who are ready to get baptized will join an informational meeting the week before the service. After the baptism service, we have an all-church celebration in the Commons to rejoice over your entrance into the life in Christ we share as a community.
Our Approach to Infant Baptism
We believe water baptism signifies belief in Jesus, commitment to His Way, and a voluntary embrace of His Lordship. This is beyond what an infant is capable of doing. Even those who practice infant baptism acknowledge this, so they require parents to make that commitment for their infant child. Foursquare believes most children, age of 8, or older, are able to make the decision to receive Jesus by faith and follow him. As a way of spiritually covering our children and welcoming them into the family of God, we do baby and child dedications. If you have a child under the age of 8 who you’d like to dedicate, please reach out to our Families Pastor, Launa Jeffery.
