05 – “Voice” (Miracles – Then + Now)
By way of a remarkably circuitous route, Jesus travels through Gentile regions that border Israel, and in doing so, he communicates that God is for all people. As he enters the region of the Decapolis, the friends of a disabled man who cannot hear or speak bring him to Jesus. Sighing with compassion, Jesus heals the man, restoring his hearing but also giving him a voice. This fulfills Isaiah’s prophecy about the mute tongue shouting for joy. It also poses a question for us: to whom will we restore a voice?
